Furthermore, the Wellington Racecourse has a rich history that brings with it an authentic atmosphere. In 1883, the Hippodrome was built under the direction of Belle Epoque architect Antoine Dujardin. It became the summer destination for King Leopold II and the rest of the royal family on several occasions. The king, together with the Duke of Wellington, gave the starting signal for the first official horse race that same year.
