From October 2024, the doors of the Kursaal Oostende concert hall will close for the major renovation, but the music will continue to resound in the building. Concerts will be organized in the foyer of the Kursaal between November 2024 and December 2025. A black box with a fixed stage and technical installation will be installed, making it possible to organize seated concerts for 750 people and standing concerts for up to 1,500 people.
Although the concert hall will temporarily close from October 2024, the Foyer Concerts will ensure that the rich musical offering of Kursaal Oostende can be continued. "We want to continue to welcome Kursaal fans to Ostend and let them enjoy live music, even during the renovations of the concert hall," says Peter Craeymeersch, Director of Toerisme Oostende VZW. "With the Foyer Concerts, the Kursaal can continue its tradition of beautiful performances."
Kursaal, an economic and cultural anchor point for Ostend
"Kursaal Oostende is an economic and cultural anchor point for our city. By organizing Foyer Concerts, we ensure that we continue to attract visitors to Ostend during the renovation period of the large concert hall. Half of the concertgoers go to eat something in the city. One in three stays overnight and combines the visit with an extra day in Ostend. It is therefore very good news for both our catering industry and our traders that the Kursaal remains open," says Bart Tommelein, mayor of the city of Ostend and chairman of Toerisme Oostende VZW.

Fixed setup
A black box will be built in the foyer containing a fixed stage and a technical installation. In a seated configuration, about 750 people can enjoy the performance. Just like in the concert hall, there will be numbered seats. For concerts with a standing setup, the Kursaal will be able to welcome up to 1,500 people.
Collaboration with promoters
The Foyer Concerts will take place from November 2024 to December 2025. "This is a story that we carry together with our regular partners and promoters." We aim to announce the first part of the program this summer. "The first options have already been noted in our agenda," says Gwen Nys, Deputy Director of Kursaal Oostende. “With this temporary setup, in addition to seated performances, we will also be able to give our visitors a taste of the standing concerts." Future Ambitions
The renovation of the concert hall, which runs parallel to the Foyer Concerts, aims to transform Kursaal Oostende into a state-of-the-art concert and event hall. From 2026, the renovated hall will be able to host not only seated performances, but also standing pop and rock concerts, with a capacity of more than 3,000 people.

Met de organisatie van Foyer Concerten, zorgen we ervoor dat we tijdens de renovatieperiode van de grote concertzaal bezoekers blijven aantrekken naar Oostende. De helft van de concertgangers gaat iets eten in de stad. Eén op drie blijft slapen en combineert het bezoek met een extra dagje in Oostende. Zowel voor onze horeca als onze handelaars is het dus zeer goed nieuws dat het Kursaal open blijft" aldus Bart Tommelein, burgemeester stad Oostende en voorzitter Toerisme Oostende VZW.
"De lancering van de Foyer Concerten zijn van groot belang voor ons restaurant en alle nabije horeca van het Kursaal. Ze helpen ons om tijdens de sluitingsperiode van de grote concertzaal de band met het Kursaal en haar bezoekers te behouden," zegt Luc Declerkc, zaakvoerder Bistro Mathilda.
Vaste set-up
In de foyer wordt een black box gebouwd met daarin een vast podium en een technische installatie. In zittende opstelling kunnen zo’n 750 mensen genieten van de voorstelling. Net zoals in de concertzaal, zal er gewerkt worden met genummerde stoelen. Voor de concerten met een staande opstelling zal het Kursaal tot 1500 personen kunnen verwelkomen.
Samenwerking met promotoren
De Foyer Concerten zullen plaatsvinden van november 2024 tot december 2025. "Dit is een verhaal dat we samen dragen met onze vaste partners en promotoren." We mikken erop om deze zomer een eerste stuk van het programma aan te kondigen. "De eerste opties staan alvast genoteerd in onze agenda," zegt Gwen Nys, Adjunct-directeur Kursaal Oostende. “Met deze tijdelijke opstelling gaan we onze bezoekers, naast zittende voorstellingen, ook al een voorproefje kunnen geven van de staande concerten." "Een perfecte overgang dus.”
Toekomstige Ambities
De renovatie van de concertzaal, die parallel loopt met de Foyer Concerten, heeft als doel Kursaal Oostende te transformeren naar een state-of-the-art concert- en evenementenhal. De vernieuwde zaal zal vanaf 2026 niet alleen zittende voorstellingen, maar ook staande pop- en rockconcerten kunnen houden, met een capaciteit van meer dan 3.000 personen.
