Veldeman is a first in the festival world with a new festival structure
At the request of the Dutch concert and festival organizer MOJO, Veldeman developed the new festival structure TFS Big Mouth, the facade of which can be opened and closed automatically over the full width. This allows the organization to create an open stage during the day and a more intimate setting in the evening with limited sound transmission to the environment. A first in the festival world!
The Dutch concert and festival organizer MOJO was looking for a new, flexible festival structure for the Down The Rabbit Hole and Lowlands festivals that can be easily opened and closed. During the day, this structure should allow the public to enjoy the performances outside as well. After all, the capacity of the closed festival tents that were previously used was insufficient. For the evening program, on the other hand, the festival structure must be able to be closed in order to create a more intimate setting and limit noise transfer to the surrounding area. A challenge for Veldeman, now an established name at many European festivals.
Veldeman developed the 50m wide TFS Big Mouth. The facade of this new festival structure can be electrically opened and closed over the entire width in just 10 minutes. Acoustic fabrics, which are already attached to the facade during construction, also limit sound transmission to the environment. 2 special emergency exits are also provided in the facade.
The TFS Big Mouth was successfully launched at both festivals last summer and created the ideal atmosphere at any time of the day. Sebastiaan Saarloos, Production Manager at Mojo: “Thanks to good cooperation, we have come to a suitable solution that perfectly meets our expectations. With the TFS Big Mouth we have a semi open-closed stage that allows us to easily switch between day and night.” This special TFS will also accommodate the festival goers in the upcoming edition.
Rolf Van Moer, Technical Department Manager at Veldeman: “For the development of this new festival structure, we called on our experience in the military sector, where we previously applied this technology to our military aircraft hangars. At the time, we developed the 'Big Mouth' principle here as an alternative to the classic gate systems, with a view to efficient logistics and fast assembly time.”

De Nederlandse concert- en festivalorganisator MOJO zocht voor de festivals Down The Rabbit Hole en Lowlands een nieuwe, flexibele festivalstructuur die gemakkelijk geopend en gesloten kan worden. Overdag moet deze structuur het publiek toelaten om ook buiten mee te genieten van de optredens. De capaciteit van de gesloten festivaltenten die voordien werden gebruikt was immers ontoereikend. Voor het avondprogramma daarentegen moet de festivalstructuur net wel gesloten kunnen worden om zo een intiemere setting te creëren en geluidsoverdracht naar de omgeving te beperken. Een uitdaging voor Veldeman, intussen een gevestigde waarde op heel wat Europese festivals.
Veldeman ontwikkelde de TFS Big Mouth van 50m breed. De gevel van deze nieuwe festivalstructuur kan over de volledige breedte elektrisch geopend en gesloten worden in slechts 10 minuten tijd. Akoestische doeken, die al tijdens de opbouw in de gevel bevestigd worden, zorgen bovendien voor een beperking van de geluidsoverdracht naar de omgeving. Ook 2 speciale nooduitgangen worden in de gevel voorzien.
De TFS Big Mouth werd afgelopen zomer succesvol gelanceerd op beide festivals en zorgde er op elk moment van de dag voor de ideale sfeer. Sebastiaan Saarloos, Production Manager bij Mojo: “Dankzij een goede samenwerking zijn we tot een passende oplossing gekomen die perfect aan onze verwachtingen voldoet. Met de TFS Big Mouth beschikken we over een semi open-gesloten stage waarmee we eenvoudig kunnen schakelen tussen dag en nacht.” Ook de komende editie zal deze speciale TFS onderdak geven aan de festivalgangers.

Hier ontwikkelden we destijds het ‘Big Mouth’ principe als alternatief voor de klassieke poortsystemen, met het oog op een efficiënte logistiek en snelle montagetijd.”
